ABOUT MALAPATAN
The
word Malapatan was coined from two Blaan words “mala” (pepper) and “fatan”
(place). It was noted that previously pepper was abundant in the place.

Dialect
Cebuano is predominantly used in the Municipality of Malapatan, comprising 39.78 percent of the total household population. B’laan, which is referred as the dialect of the lumads or native highlanders, comprises 37.22 percent of the total household population. Maguindanon, which is referred as the dialect of the native Muslims, comprises 11.72 percent of the total household population
Geography
Malapatan is one of the seven municipalities of the Province of Sarangani. It is situated at the Southern part of Mindanao. It is approximately 28 kilometers from General Santos City and 14 kilometers from Alabel, the Capital town of Sarangani. It is bounded by the Municipality of Alabel by the North; by the Municipality of Glan by the South, by the Province of Davao Del Sur by the East ; and by the Sarangani Bay by the West.
Climate:
Malapatan has two known seasons; wet seasons which occurs from May to October and dry season which occurs from November to April. Heaviest rainfall occurs in the months of June and July. The prevailing wind direction is towards the northwest during the months of May, September, October, November, and December and towards the southeast during the months of January, February, March, April, June, July and August.
Investment Hubs and Opportunities
Small hotels and lodging houses are potentials investments. Also, investments in coconut oil milling are a potential in Malapatan, which itself has an abundance of coconuts.
Industries
Prawn Farms are located along the coastline of Barangay Lun Padidu , Lun Masla and Tuyan. Small cottage industries such as dried fish and anchovies are located at Barangays Sapu Padidu. Corn mills are located on the strategic areas were corn are abundant.
Tourist Attractions
Malapatan has more or less 12 kilometers of beaches. Accessible resorts are located in Barangay Lun Padidu, Lun Masla, Tuyan, and Poblacion.
